And when you don’t have adequate fluid in your joints, it can cause the cartilage in your joints to begin wearing down, which can cause pain.
How much water should you drink? That’s a tough question, and it really comes down to each individual person. Some say that you should drink a gallon of water a day. But that’s for an average person. Therefore, if you’re an athlete, you’ll require an even higher amount of water per day to replenish what was lost during training or competition.
The key is to listen to your body. A simple strategy is to carry a bottle of water around with you all day that you can sip from. When the bottle is empty, fill it back up or grab a new bottle.
It should go without saying, but your joints are used to taking a beating from your daily activity and movements. But that doesn’t mean it can sustain the abuse. The repetitive pounding of the joints engaging in activities like running can cause joint health issues and pain. Even worse is if you were to gain weight and continue those same activities.
Gaining even as little as 10 pounds can lead to nearly 40 pounds of added force being put on your joints. However, when you gain weight, you’re putting extra stress on your joints.
