Does Vitamin C Prevent Colds?

EndurElite Chief Endurance Officer Matt Mosman discusses if Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) can stop sniffles, congestion, and other cold-related symptoms.

Can Vitamin C Stop Colds?

  • The short answer is no but not all hope is lost with this mighty anti-oxidant.
  • A 2007 meta-analysis done by Douglas et al. that included 30 studies with over 11,000 subjects found that taking 1 gram of Vitamin C daily can help reduce the incidence, duration, and severity of colds.
  • Take home point? In order to get the benefits of Vitamin C just don’t take when you get a cold, instead, take it every day.
